Offering counselling in Guildford
What happens next?
You can call or email me to arrange an initial assessment. The assessment is carried out over the phone and gives you the opportunity to ask further questions and to see if you feel comfortable with me. It also gives me the opportunity to gather information from you, to enable me to decide if we could work together. This is not a counselling session and there is no charge for this. It would generally last approximately 15-20 minutes.
If we are both happy to proceed after this, we can arrange your first face to face counselling session. Subsequent sessions are usually at the same time, day and location each week.
Once your first session is booked, I will send you an email to confirm the date and time, along with separate emails containing agreements relating to GDPR (Privacy) and terms of business (Client Agreement). Please ensure you read all of these and follow the instructions regarding your consent to each prior to your first session. If you have any questions relating to these, please contact me straight away so that we can discuss further.
A counselling session lasts for 50 minutes and cannot overrun due to other clients waiting. This means that if you arrive late, your session will still have to finish at the scheduled time, making it a shorter session and the full fee will still apply.
My fee is £50 for a 50 minute face to face session and payable as follows:
Payment for your first face to face session is by BACS at the time of booking. Payment continues to be taken in advance of each session, meaning that there is no fee payable at your final session.
Subsequent sessions can be paid by debit card (not Amex), Apple pay, Google Pay or cash, on arrival into your session - unfortunately, sessions cannot proceed without payment being received.
The number of sessions needed will vary for each individual, but general examples are 6-12 sessions for short term therapy and can be open-ended for long term therapy with regular reviews.
I ask for 48 hours notice for cancellations, otherwise the full fee is still payable. If a session has to be cancelled by me for any reason, there will be no charge and the fee already paid will be rolled onto the next session.
Confidentiality is an essential aspect of counselling. I will not share your personal details or the content of our sessions, except in exceptional circumstances, such as if you disclose details of certain reportable crimes, where you are at risk of harm to yourself or to someone else, where we have identified the need for onward referral to other professionals or as a result of discussing with my professional supervisor to ensure I offer you the most ethical and professional care.
Wherever possible, I will discuss any necessary breach of confidentiality with you, before the event.
Contact Outside of Sessions
Any contact between sessions should be kept to appointment queries - other concerns should be brought to your session. I am unable to provide an emergency / crisis service.
To maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries, contact should only be made through the agreed telephone or email routes. Contact through social media is not permissible.
If I were to see you outside of the therapy setting, please be assured that I will not approach you, so as to not breach confidentiality.
In the first instance, I hope you would be able to approach me with any concerns and where possible, for us to work together towards a resolution. If this is not possible or appropriate, you can contact the BACP using the following details and they will guide you through the relevant process:
